Yam Setts β 1bundle
Root & Tuber Planting
Description
Yam setts are small, carefully cut portions of mature yam tubers that are prepared specifically for planting. Each piece is selected to contain at least one or more viable βeyesβ or buds, which are the natural growth points that sprout into new yam plants once placed in soil. Instead of planting a whole tuber, farmers divide healthy seed yams into these smaller units to multiply planting material. The setts are usually treated, sometimes with ash or fungicide, and then dried briefly to reduce rot and improve survival in the soil. What this really means is you are breaking one good yam into several new starting points for a whole new harvest cycle.
